Calcavecchia wins Boeing Classic

Four years after winning the 2007 PODS Championship, Mark Calcavecchia finally got back to winning ways.
The 51-year-old from Laurel, Nebraska took his first Champions Tour title holding off Russ Cochran with a two-putt birdie on the first hole of a playoff to claim the Boeing Classic on Sunday.
''Today he looked like no matter what was going to happen, that he was going to keep coming and keep making birdies and keep doing good things,'' Cochran said about the man he beat at the Senior British Open.
'That's a big difference. That's what we all kind of strive for.''
As well as losing to Cochran at Royal St George’s, Calcavecchia blew a big third-round lead at the Regions Tradition.
This time the 13-time PGA Tour winner made no mistakes when he came to crunch-time.
Having been forced into the playoff Cochran’s eagle on the 18th, Calcavecchia punished his friend and neighbour’s misplaced bunker shot on the repeated hole and two-putted for the title.
''I think this will help me down the road. I have let a few tournaments, let a lot of tournaments get away my whole career. I kind of have that fault,'' Calcavecchia said.
''It's not that I'm not tough, but I don't always play so well the back nine when I need to. ' Chip Beck (68) hit four consecutive birdies in the final five to finish third at 9 under, while Jeff Sluman (71) came in fourth at 8 under.
