New PGA Season to start in October 2013
From 2013, the PGA Tour will move the season's start from January to October, the PGA policy board announced. The season will conclude with the Tour Championship in September 2014. The Fall Series tournaments will also be awarded full FedEx Cup points.

"With the fall tournaments moving to the front end of the PGA Tour schedule, the policy board believes the next logical step is for these tournaments to kick off the FedEx Cup and begin awarding full points," PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said. "

All of these tournaments have been very successful and certainly deserve to be part of the FedEx Cup competition."

This move means that the Frys.com Open will now lead of the 2013-14 season, schedulded for the week of October 7-13 in 2013.

"The Frys.com Open has been successful since its inception, and with it becoming the first event of the season, we are certain that Fry's Electronics and their tournament staff will elevate the event even further," Finchem said.

The Frys.com Open first became a PGA Tour event in 2006, with tournaments played in Las Vegas and Scottsdale before finding a permanent home in CordeValle Golf Resort, San Martin in 2010.

"Duke Butler (tournament president) and I have been striving for this change of schedule for two years, so this is great news," tournament chairwoman Kathy Kolder said. "It should help grow our event in stature, player field, Golf Channel audience, and attendance, therefore increasing net contributions to charity."
