A mouthy mannequin he is, but if you want to, you can contribute to dressing Sergio Garcia for The Players Championship in May.
The PGA Tour has unveiled “Dress Sergio,” a first-of-its-kind promotion for The Players Championship. Starting today, fans can vote online at pgatour.com/DressSergio for one of three adidas outfits they would like to see Garcia wear during the second round of The Players.
Voting closes on Wednesday of The Players, May 6, and Garcia will unveil the winning outfit in the media center following the first round on Thursday, May 7.
I can hear the snickers from my jaded media peers now about the blatant commercialism of it all.
I've looked at the choices, and I must say they are a little conservative. I love addidas' stuff, and they weren't going to get outrageous because this is a big marketing coup for the Carlsbad-based company. But ... I was hoping for a loud, Duffy Waldorf-esque Hawaiian shirt or those green shoes Charley Hoffman wears. Couldn't we get Sergio is a black cape? Shingo Katayama wears a cowboy hat. Why couldn't Sergio look like Zorro?
Anyway, here's the money-making part of it (because there always is a money-making part): All three outfits will be on display and available for purchase during tournament week in The Players Shops at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
What do the fans get out of it, besides soothing some deep-seated Mr. Blackwell desire?
At the time of voting, they have the option to register for a sweepstakes, with the chance to win: Grand Prize: $3,000 TaylorMade-adidas Golf package; Second-place Prize (5): TaylorMade R9 Driver; Third-place Prize (1,000): Sleeve of TaylorMade Sergio Garcia golf balls.
