First PGA Tour Event visits South East Asia

A host of USA Golfers are travelling to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this week for the first PGA Tour sanctioned event in Southeast Asia.

Americans  Rickie Fowler, Ryan Moore, Kevin Na, Ben Crane, Ricky Barnes, J.B. Holmes, Ryan Palmer, Heath Slocum, Tom Gillis, Kevin Streelman, D.J. Trahan and Bill Haas will join the likes of Europe’s Luke Donald who is ranked no 8 in the world and South African Ernie Els, who won last week’s PGA Grand Slam of golf in Bermuda

Three time Asian Tour Order of Merit champion Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand will also be playing along with other; local favorites K.J Choi of Korea and fellow country man Noh Seung-yul, the current number one golfer on the Asian Tour.

The 40 strong filed will play 72 holes of golf, with no halfway cut for the event at the Mines Resort and Golf Club. The course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr is built on what was previously the largest open-cast tin mine in the world.

The event has a purse of $6 million, with the winner receiving $1 million.
