Mickelson-Players still a great Tournament
|
Despite the absence of some of the world top golfers, Phil Mickelson still believes that this week’s Players Championship is one of the great tournaments in the golfing calendar
Speaking at a recent press conference he said
“I feel like since I've been out on tour that this is one of the tournaments that I would like to win the most right along with the majors."
Both Lee Westwood and Rory MIlroy have chosen to not to play at Sawgrass, but Mickelson does not agree with their decision
"Everybody has got their own personal deal, but I disagree with their thought process”
With the current world number one, Lee Westwood not playing this week, it gives Mickeslon and a few others the opportunity to gain the world number one spot.
Luke Donald could take the position if he wins, while German Martin Kaymer needs a top two finish to move back there.
Although Tiger Woods will be playing, he will not be able to reach the top spot after falling down the rankings to number eight this week after he missed the Wells Fargo Championship last weekend due to knee and Achilles injuries. He was overtaken by Paul Casey, despite him missing the cut at Quail Hollow.
