Rory adds Golf Writers Trophy to awards haul

World number one Rory McIlroy's stellar season has been capped off with
the announcement that he has been awarded the 2012 Golf Writers' Trophy.
The
Northern Irish superstar won five titles this year including the US PGA
Championship and topped the money lists on both sides of the Atlantic,
emulating fellow British golfer Luke Donald who achieved the feat in
2011.
"The 2012 season was a superb one for every aspect of
European golf and that comes across when you look at the names of the
players in contention for the Golf Writers' Trophy," said McIlroy.
"To come out on top of that list is a great honour."
In
second place came Europe's miraculous Ryder Cup team, of which McIlroy
was also a part, which performed an improbably comeback at the Medinah
course in Illinois to retain the trophy.
In third place came
Roger Chapman who won back-to-back senior major championships, a feat
only previous done by luminaries such as Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and
Hale Irwin. |
