G-Mac: McIlroy timing perfect
New stable-mate and best friend Graeme McDowell feels Rory McIlroy’s recent victory in Shanghai came at just the right time and might have silenced a few of his critics.

McIlroy had not won a tournament since crushing the field at Congressional to land the US Open.

The Northern Irishman has also been criticised in the media for switching his management company from Andrew 'Chubby' Chandler to Dublin-based Horizon Sports, while a few fellow professionals also raised their eyebrows at the news.

McDowell is represented by the same company and he was delighted that his close friend and stablemate was able to get over the line in the Far East and scoop the $2 million first prize - the richest in golf.

"It's fantastic for Rory, very exciting for him and for Horizon Sports," he said. "Our manager Conor Ridge was over there too and it's the optimum start for Rory and will silence the critics who have been having a go at him."

McIlroy will have another chance to win in Asia this week as he and McDowell are set to line-up in a star-studded field for the WGC-HSBC Champions event.

The 22-year-old has confessed that he feels he can challenge for the title and close the gap on Luke Donald in the Race To Dubai standings, as the Englishman sits out the tournament.
