Dustin Johnson gatecrashes World Top 5
|
After his six-under-par 65 clinched his first PGA Tour title of the year at The Barclays, Dustin Johnson zoomed up the rankings issued on August 28.
Johnson’s fine victory in the rain-effected tournament emphatically cements him within the top five elite players.
Jumping from 9th to a career high of 4th, the 27-year-old from South Carolina also tops the FedEx Cup leader board following his win at the rain-shortened event in New Jersey.
Johnson’s closest competition at the Plainfield Country Club, compatriot Matt Kuchar, also took a boost in the rankings as he moved into the top 10, climbing five places up from 12th to 7th.
The top three remains the same with Englishmen Luke Donald, now in his 14th week at number one, and Lee Westwood occupying the top two places.
Steve Stricker remains the highest ranked American at No.3, and Germany’s Martin Kaymer rounds out the top five.
Elsewhere, Fijian Vijay Singh (66 to 53), Thomas Bjorn from Denmark (70 to 59), Korea's Bae Sang-moon (108 to 79) and South African George Coetzee (112-100) all had big surges in the top one hundred.
The next major event within the golf calendar is the Deutsche Bank Championship on Friday.
