Riviera to host 2017 Amateur Championship

The Riviera Country Club will host the 2017 U.S. Amateur Championship,the club and USGA announced Monday.
"The USGA is excited to bring the U.S. Amateur Championship to Riviera Country Club, returning our oldest championship to Southern California for the first time since 1976," USGA vice president and championship committee chairman Thomas J. O'Toole Jr. said in a statement.
This decisions means Rivieria will have the distinguished honour of becoming one of the few courses to host the U.S. Open, U.S. Senior Open and U.S. Amateur.
The George Thomas-designed course has hosted three major championships and a senior major, and now will welcome the world's best amateurs.
In 1941 the club first hosted the Northern Trust Open on the PGA Tour and boasts a rolecall of champions of no little repute: Ben Hogan (1946 US Open), Hal Sutton (1983 PGA Championship) and Steve Elkington (1995 PGA)
The NCAA Championship Division I golf championships is scheduled to take place at Riviera from May 29-June 3.
