Westwood dominates in Thailand with 7-shot win
Lee Westwood crushed the field at the Thailand Golf Championship Sunday, not only cruising to victory with a seven-shot victory at the Amata Spring Country Club, but also reclaiming his spot at World No2 in the rankings ahead of US Open champion Rory McIlroy.

“It means a lot, any win does,” Westwood said. “It’s special this week because of the difficulty of the golf course, who I was up against in the weekend.

Pushing Westwood to new heights was US Masters champion Charl Schwartzel of South Africa, but the Englishman excelled under the pressure hitting a career best course-record 60 in the first round, 64 in the second and ended on 69 for a 22-under 266.

“Charl is the Masters champion and he has had a great year,” Westwood acknowledged.

“The fact that I led wire to wire—60 in the first round and 64 in the second round, 20 under after two rounds—it’s yours to lose really with an 11-shot lead. There was pressured involved.”

"I've amazed myself really," he said. "It's been staggering. It's probably the best I've ever played."

After claiming his fourth title of the year Westwood told Sky Sports he is hopeful for his chances next season:

"I'm going to continue to work on my fitness and all aspects of my game. I'm going in the right direction, I can see a lot of improvement and I'm happy with the way I've finished the year, I've won two out of my last three events.

"I'll go into the winter with a lot of confidence and I'll try to come out next year playing the same kind of golf as I played this week, a little bit leaner and well rested."
