Ernie Els makes it Big Easy in Munich win
The "Big Easy" Ernie Els swept through Munich with a wire-to-wire win at the BMW Open on Sunday birdying the final hole to seal a one-shot victory.

The four-time major winner finished with a 69 for a total of 18-under par just ahead of Thomas Bjorn of Denmark.

Els has been in excellent form recently, finishing in the top six in his last two events (US Open and BMW PGA), but he hasn't cashed a winner's check since his triumph at last year's British Open.

"It's been a long while," he said afterwards. "I've had a great weekend in Germany and tried a long time to win this golf tournament. I made it pretty tough for myself again.

"I stayed with the basics. It's great to get my name on this wonderful trophy."

The 43-year-old will next be in action at this year's iteration of the major he won last year, and the triumph in Germany gave him a timely fillip ahead of his defence at Muirfield, Scotland next month.

"Obviously it gives me a lot," he added. "Wire to wire you've got the pressure and every night you've got to sleep on it.

"This is quite a week for me. There were a lot of strong players in the field. I'm really looking forward to Muirfield."
