Ben Crane into Masters; Els still to qualify
Ben Crane had to wait until the end of Arnold Palmer Invitational to make sure he was going to the Masters.

Beginning the week at No. 48 in the world rankings, Crane had little wiggle room to remain inside the top 50 after the Arnold Palmer Invitational to earn a berth into the Masters.

But despite missing the cut at Bay Hill, Crane dropped just one spot to 49th. He’ll be going to Augusta National.

Obviously elated to make his fifth Masters appearance, Crane tweeted with glee:

“Wow what a day sitting at 48th world ranking and top 50 get into Masters after this week. I dropped to 49 and got in and now tied for the lead!!”

While Sportsbook.com has the American at 125 to 1 to win the year’s first major, Crane thought a line from the movie “Dumb and Dumber” was more apropos.

“(What are the) chances of green jacket like you & a player like me (getting) together? one in ten? More like one in a million. So you are sayin there's a chance I hear ya,” he tweeted.

Paul Lawrie, who won the Qatar Masters this year, also got in at No. 46.

Ernie Els would have needed to finish second at Bay Hill to go from No. 62 into the top 50. He shot 75 and tied for fourth. Els will need to win the Houston Open to avoid missing the Masters for the first time since 1993.

The Masters has 96 players expected to compete.
