Mickelson will be trying for Number One again.

Despite not over taking Tiger at the top of the rankings this weekend, left handed golfer Phil Mickelson still believes he can do it.

This week’s final major of the year-The PGA Championship at Whistling Straights gives him another opportunity, with a variety of scenarios

Regardless of Tiger's positon, ifMickleson wins, he will become number one, while if he comes second and Tiger is outside the top three, he will also takes the top position.

If he comes in at third place, Woods would have to be in the top 11 to prevent him from becoming number one, while a fourth place for Mickelson would mean he could become the number one golfer as long as Tiger is outside the top 46

"I haven't really played a lot of competitive golf in the last six, eight weeks"said Mickelson

"It showed (at Akron) and I've got a lot to work on in the next couple of days."

The PGA Championship is the last qualifying tournament to earn qualifying points for the US Ryder Cup Team from which the top eight will earn automatic places.

Captain Corey Pavin will then take another three weeks before announcing his four wild cards.

Woods is currently 10th in the points list
