The US PGA will be hoping that top golfer Tiger World will be able to return to his former glory this season and give the Tour a boost.
With Tiger not playing for a large part of last year and then not playing to his normal standard Television ratings have dipped dramatically. That coupled with the withdrawal of various top European golfers from some of the PGA events, means that television contracts which are soon up for renewal could affect the PGA bottom line.
World Number one Rory McIIlroy is the latest European to pull out of a Major PGA Tournament. Like world number one Lee Westwood, he has chosen not to play in the Players Championship at Sawgrass in May
Both Westwood and McIIroy decided not to join the US tour last year, which means they are restricted by the PGA to how many events they can play in the USA. They are only allowed to play in the Majors, The World Golf Championship, The Players and three other events.
So the fact that they have both chosen to not to play in The Players, classed as the fifth Major will be a disappointment to the PGA.
