"I suppose I got into the zone," said McIlroy,. "I hadn't realized I was going in 9, 10 under. I just know I got my nose in front and I was just trying to stay there."
"The last two days, it seemed as if everything had just gone right, you get yourself into sort of a mindset like that, and you just keep going. It's just been a great day."
He added “Ever since I was 10 or 11 I wanted to be a professional golfer and it’s been to this point. I am just delighted to get my first win of the year and do it on a course like this it is just amazing.”
His round included eight birdies and an eagle to finish on 62, beating Masters Winner Phil Mickelson by four shots
The win means Mcllroy will now go to no 9 in the world ranking.
It has been a great weekend for young golfers as also on Sunday, 18 year old Japanese golfer Ryo Ishikawa became the first player to finish a round on 58.
