Five-time champ Love pulls out of Heritage
|
The RBC Heritage tournament will be missing one of its most successful champions come Thursday, with news that Davis Love III has been forced to pull out of the event.
While Love initially confirmed his participation on Friday, it was somewhat based on the belief that he could play through a cracked rib.
The same injury that caused him to pull out of the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational last month. Love has not been able to play since.
As a result, the injury ends one of the most impressive consecutive appearances in golf: Love has played in the RBC Heritage tournament for 26 straight seasons, winning in 1987, 1991, 1992, 1998 and 2003.
Moreover, Love is the tournament's leading money-winner banking more than $2.6 million made at Harbour Town Golf Links.
Such is his commitment to the tournament, that Love has one of most vocal players in the search for a sponsor for the tournament, which had lost longtime backer Verizon after 2010.
Thanks to the effort of Love and organizers, RBC and Boeing have taken on that role for the next five years. |
